This is the fourth edition of a celebrated and idiosyncratic anthology edited by the late Professor Pierre Bourdieu of the Collège de France, who was generally recognized as the most important French sociologist since Emile Durkheim. It consists of brief excerpts, some originally written in French, others translated from a range of other languages, drawn from classic texts in the social sciences and the humanities. These selections, together with Bourdieu's framing notes and commentary, were intended for introductory courses in the epistemology of the social sciences. Far more than a textbook, however, Le métier de sociologue is as the Bourdieu scholar, Professor Beate Krais, has written "also a contribution in its own right" to that epistemology, as well as a discourse on sociological method by a master of his craft. --Ce texte fait référence à une édition épuisée ou non disponible de ce titre.
