وُلد نابليون هيل في ٢٦ أكتوبر سنة ١٨٨٣، وكان اسمه في شهادة الميلاد أوليفر نابليون هيل، مع ذلك أسقط "أوليفر" من اسمه قبل أن يصبح كاتبًا مشهورًا. لم يكن هناك الكثير في بيئة هيل المبكرة التي قد تشير إلى مسار الحياة المهنية الذي سوف يسلكه في حياته؛ حيث نشأ وترعرع في وايس كاونتي، بولاية فيرجين
